Steps to Reproduce: Visual inspection of device shows cracks on the front of display Issue: Customer reports vice fell out of her hand and cracked In case you can’t read the screenshot, here’s the text part of my “Problem Description/Diagnosis:” I’m sharing this with you because I urge you to always get AppleCare for all your Apple devices. Here are the embarrassing and gory details of the repair - that were also emailed to me while I was waiting in the store. This email was sent right away by Apple - while I was still in the store - letting me know my old iPhone 5S was “off the grid” and unfindable. Ten minutes later, I was with a Genius and, without pause, she saw the cracked screen and instantly processed an entire replacement phone for me! Yay Apple! I was super excited. Oh, and the “fingerprint thing” my husband mentioned in the iMessage did, indeed, have to be re-trained when I got home later last night. That feature alone is worth the price of the new iPhone. Since the fingerprint reader is so precisely connected to the screen, I was concerned that a quick repair might not let me login with my thumb any longer. I didn’t know if they’d swap me a new iPhone or try to repair the screen. I was slightly concerned about getting from 42nd Street to Greenwich Village in time to teach, but I decided to stay and sweat out the delay. Upon arrival, I was told by an Apple employee at Grand Central I’d have to wait 30 minutes because the Genius Bar was behind schedule. What a pretty shrine to technology and architecture! I was excited to visit the Grand Central Apple Store in Manhattan. The Apple Store in Soho that I usually use didn’t have any Genius Bar iPhone appointments available for two days. He went online and set up a Genius Bar appointment at the Grand Central store an hour before I had to teach ASL at NYU in the afternoon. When my iPhone screen broke, it was still usable. Quick end: Apple Gave me a new phone, as you can see in the iMessage confirmation below with my husband that he captured for this story. I was immediately reminded of my previous, Best Apple Support Story Ever Told experience - when my brand-new iPad was knocked out of my hands - and knew I’d have to, once again, invoke my AppleCare+ status, cross my fingers, and hope for the best. Maybe the Post Office concrete floor was just too much for my new 5S beauty to handle. I dropped my iPhone 4S quite a few times in the past and the screen never spidered. Have you noticed the Post Office gives you really slick and teflon-like coated printed receipts that are, like, three feet long when you just buy one stamp? When I tried to put the receipt in the same hand as my iPhone, the receipt won, and my 5S got a whole new tutorial on the real meaning of “ AirDrop.” While I was at the Post Office in Queens, my less-than-two-week-old iPhone 5S slipped - “sleeked?” - from my hand and smashed on the floor breaking the screen. I have a terrible habit of dropping brand-new Apple products right after I get them - and yesterday morning was no exception. If all goes well, by tomorrow night all the body work should be done and all the parts should be primed. The Terra-Gator Fertilizer Spreader Model I made several years ago also had real soft tires and I had to put a stand uner it too. I’m thinking the finished HENDRICKSON TRUCK MODEL could end up weighing closer to 40 lbs. And over a few years of sitting on the shelf, they would be 100% squished. Without the stands, they would be 3/4 squished !!. That way, they can be turned up or down depending how much squishiness Kevin wants on the tires to give them the right look. Because of the finished weight of the truck and the softness of the tires, I am mounting ajustable stands under the truck model. HENDRICKSON THE BEAUTY TRUCK MODEL – Well, I am doing the last of the welding on the truck this afternoon. Oh Yea !! Almost time to get the Corvette out of storage, ha,ha. The weatherman is saying another week we could get a wram spell and it could hit 30 degrees. The sun is shining and it is now 7 degrees. TWO DEGREES BELOW ZERO AGAIN THIS MORNING- It was another nippy morning in Gaylord, Michigan. So I just got back from Sears and bought a new 1.5 hp compressor for under the workbench. My small under the bench compressor quit on me today. NEW CRAFTSMAN AIR COMPRESSOR- I have a 5 hp, 60 gallon air compressor, but don’t use it during the winter months. Did I ever mention I like all kinds of machines, LOL !! KOMATSU SUPER DOZER- I will work on the second track frame this afternoon. Last night I got things around and started working on the scale the 575A Super Dozer model will be. The big Dart Loader was very unique looking and the Liebherr T-272 Monster Haul Truck was awesome so I hope to also build both of those machines into models one of these days. And it won’t be the last, there are two more machines we climbed on that day I still want to build. So this is the third piece of equipment I will be building into a model from this trip. We had a great afternoon with John in the coal mines and so far I have built the Bucyrus-Erie model like the real one that John operates, and I have built the monster Champion 100T grader that we climbed all over on this trip. It looks like Tom was trying to stretch his hands across to see if he could reach both sides of the blade in this picture, ha,ha. weighing in at around 150 tons and with a engine producing over 1,150 h.p. It is the largest and most powerful dozer being produced today. Well, the day has arrived that I have begun the design stage of this Komatsu 575A Super Dozer. KOMATSU 575A SUPER DOZER AND TOM, JOHN AND ME IN THE COAL MINES. MiKTeX is unofficial, and sometimes breaks on Windows-quite rarely, but seriously enough to bring your work to a halt. Besides that-and I cannot emphasise it enough-in 4 years, I have encountered many cryptic errors that were MiKTeX-specific on various colleagues’ computers that could not be replicated in TeXLive or Overleaf (that is using TeXLive). TeXMaker is becoming a thing of the past-compared to it, TeXStudio provides more features (in small things like dark theme support, or document parsing for better structure view, or better paragraph rewrapping etc.) and is being more actively developed. I would actually suggest two equivalent alternatives. Resources: If you wanted to move the transcoded file to a new folder you could just add a path to the beginning of the output filename. Applications/HandbrakeCLI -i "$1" -o "$"mp4 -preset='AppleTV3' Here’s my avi to mp4 shell script if you’d like to copy/paste. Then in my case I made two Handbrake CLI scripts, one for mkv files and one for avi’s. In my adjacent rules section the first rule I add is one that scans subfolders and applies the other rules to them as well. In Hazel I want to add the folder my movies are in in the left, be it downloads or a movies folder or what have you. I just want to encode a same-named mp4 file, toss the old avi or mkv and move on. I don’t want to move the files out of their folders, becuase a lot of them have subtitle track files too. In my setup I have a movies folder with a bunch of subfolders and then. I’ve seen other tutorials that recommended putting it in /usr/bin but Sierra wouldn’t let me do that even as superuser. Alongside Better Rename it’s my favorite piece of automation software on mac ( Alfred is also very good).Īdd Handbrake CLI to your applications folder. It’s incredibly useful for automating folder actions and there’s a thousand uses for it. I used Handbrake CLI here for simplicity, but if you wanted to encode something other than mp4, you could probably use ffmpeg.įirst, grab Hazel. Hazel is refreshingly powerful and simple, and since you can fire off shell scripts with it, you can use it with a number of services. I’ve used Apple’s Automator on and off for years and always found it slightly confusing and clumsy. This is where the excellent Hazel folder action tool comes in. – How to batch transcode with Hazel and Handbrake CLI– It’s clearly time for me to transcode all my media to mp4. Perian, a multi codec package for quicktime, died a sad death long ago. Mpeg Streamclip used to be my tool of choice and it no longer seems to work in Sierra. While VLC will happily play them, I like to scrub through my movie collections and extract clips to use in video projections. It’s getting increasingly difficult to work with these formats on modern Mac operating systems. Because I’ve been nursing this collection along for over a decade and trading with others, they’re in a number of different formats- divx, matroska, and others. Not exactly ephemeral new movies I can just stream from a modern service. Lots of them are obscure rips of old laserdiscs, VHS, and things that maybe played on Soviet Television. I have an archive of thousands of movies living on a disk array. Bioturbation and root growth are the primary mechanisms for introducing POM into the soil. Bacterial cells tend to aggregate near living plant roots 24 or the active rhizosphere 25, and in the detritusphere 26 around plant-derived particulate organic matter (POM). Soils of temperate regions host bacterial cell densities between 10 7 and 10 10 cells per gram of soil 9. Complex pore spaces with a large specific surface area are characteristic of soil bacterial habitats 22, yet bacterial cells occupy less than 1% of the available surface area 13, 23. Elucidating typical ranges of bacterial interactions at the cell 14 or colony scales as shaped by their physical environment can benefit the interpretation of measurements made at coarser scales (bulk samples or soil profiles) and provide mechanistic insights into the functioning of the soil microbiome in different biomes 15, 16, 17, 18.Įvidence suggests that bacterial cells are spatially aggregated 9 and exhibit highly localized activity in soil 19, 20 and marine sediments 21. Yet, how bacterial populations are spatially organized in soil pore spaces and how they interact at small scales relevant to their life strategies 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 remain largely unknown. Interactions between soil properties, precipitation 3, temperature, and associated factors such as vegetation-derived primary productivity 2, 5 exert significant control over macroscopic measures such as bacterial abundance or diversity. Soil bacteria rank high in the global biomass distribution 6 and provide crucial ecosystem functions 4, 7, 8. The focus on large-scale biogeographic patterns 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 has revealed important drivers for soil microbial abundance 2, 3 and diversity 1, 4. Micro-geographic considerations of difficult-to-observe microbial processes can improve the interpretation of data from bulk soil samples. Biomes with high carbon inputs promote large and dense cell clusters where anoxic microsites form even in aerated soils. Frequently wet soils enable long-range trophic interactions between dense cell clusters through connected aqueous pathways. Dry soils with long diffusion times limit localized interactions of the sparse communities. The spatial distribution of bacterial cell clusters modulates various metabolic interactions and soil microbiome functioning. Here, we propose a modelling framework representing submillimeter-scale distributions of soil bacteria based on physical constraints supported by individual-based model results and direct observations. Yet, the spatial distributions of bacterial cells in soil communities remain underexplored. Examine all three slides under oil immersion and record your results on your worksheet.Earth’s diverse soil microbiomes host bacteria within dynamic and fragmented aqueous habitats that occupy complex pore spaces and restrict the spatial range of ecological interactions. Repeat this procedure to make a slide of S. Allow the slides to air dry on the counter. Use a second slide, held at a 45-degree angle to smear across your slide.ġ2. Aseptically transfer one loopful of your NEGATIVE STAIN MIX bacteria into the drop of nigrosin and mix gently.ġ1. Add a small drop of nigrosin to the slide.ġ0. If you need to, step outside and watch this video to make sure you understand how to do the procedure: (you can also google “negative stain video”)ĩ. The glass of the slide will stain, but the bacterial cells will not.Ĩ. Since the surface of most bacterial cells is negatively charged, the cell surface repels the stain. Nigrosin is an acidic stain which becomes negatively charged. An advantage of using this method is that prior fixation by heat is not needed, so the organisms are seen in more lifelike shapes. The shapes and sizes of the organisms are seen as color-free outlines against the dark background. Nigrosin is a simple and indirect stain used for determining bacterial morphology. An Overcharge keg is also one of the items that can be dropped in by the RYNO 8. When using the cheat, you’ll have the chance to change your collectible bolts to cans of Overcharge. This was destroyed at the start of the first game, but Sully got a blue one at the end of Uncharted 3. Speaking of Uncharted, in a flash, you might notice a red and white seaplane drop from a portal. Not wanting to miss out on the party, you’ll be able to warp in Jak in. Is there anything more iconic than the Cooper Gang’s van? Unfortunately, however, we are sorry to announce that there is no sign of the team’s muscle, Murray.Ī year before there was Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank, there was Jak and Daxter. Here he’s depicted in his wheelchair, after he was crushed by Clockwerk’s jaws at the end of Sly 2. Sly Cooper also arrived on the PS2 back in 2002 and can now be warped into a Ratchet and Clank game almost 20 years later.Īlong with Sly, you can also warp in his trusty companion and brains of the operation, Bentley. The PlayStation 2 birthed a new generation of iconic platforming characters beyond just Ratchet & Clank. Found something that we missed? Let us know in the comments below! The majority of these objects disappear in a flash, but if you’re quick with that photo mode, you can get a detailed look at all the familiar characters, vehicles, and relics that appear. Some of the titles will also be available for individual purchase. When these titles are released for PS4 and PS5, players can head to PlayStation Store and download a version for the consoles at no extra cost if they already own the digital version of the title. Of course, the blog post also includes this tasty little morsel:Īlso, players who have previously purchased the digital version of select games from the original PlayStation and PSP generation will not have to make a separate purchase or sign up to PlayStation Plus to play these titles on PS4 or PS5. It is, in fact, the only game from the PSOne era I would probably ever care to play again, but it alone is enough to warrant a Premium subscription in my book. I.Q.: Intelligent Qube is, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest 3D puzzle games of all time, and it’s a game I recently called for a remaster of (along with six other great older titles).
“I had initially worried that the tent would lose inflation and need to be topped up after a few days, but our holiday was for three days and three nights and we didn’t need to add any air to it once. Within 10 minutes of parking up at our pitch, we had an enormous family tent up and ready to go. The white plugs into which it was to be inserted were easy to find. The air pump was quick to connect and easy to use. “My family and I are not experienced campers by any stretch of the imagination, and the thought of erecting a family tent is usually enough for me to develop a cold sweat, but putting up the Vango Air was laughably easy. But the most striking feature was the ease with which the tent went up. Here’s what Jamie had to say: “From the little details, like arriving in a wheeled bag for ease of transportation and the inclusion of a number of small pockets in the interior in which to place wet shoes etc, the Vango Air impressed from the start. Some of us even climbed in the wheeled-bag it came in. Seeing the Airbeam pump up for the first time made us all yelp with excitement. It was important that Mum was comfortable because she was pregnant at the time. This time round we helped them out with a Vango Airbeam, it’s similar in size to our own Vango Tigris a family of four. They came with us to Pevensey Bay last summer but had a very small tent – and it rained – so we didn’t want them to give up on coming camping with us. AT Easter we invited another family to come camping with us at Wowo.
